States Works busy in the aftermath of Storm Ciara

States Works staff have been busy clearing up from the havoc Storm Ciara caused last night across the island.

The island's west coast took a particular battering following a combination of a high spring tide and gale force winds.

"Along stretches of L'Eree, Vazon, Perelle and Cobo coast roads in particular, our teams have been busy clearing a mixture of stones, shingle and seaweed thrown over the sea defences," said Matt Hardwick, States Works Senior Manager.

"Residents along Perelle coast road had installed their flood barriers on Saturday in preparation for the arrival of Storm Ciara, and it looks like these have done their job. This, combined with efforts to keep drainage gullies clear of seaweed, has prevented any flooding in what is often a vulnerable coastal area."

Overnight, States works also received a number of calls reporting fallen trees and where necessary, placed warning and diversion signs whilst these blockages were cleared.

More strong winds are expected this evening and overnight along with another high spring tide. Further disruption is anticipated across the island and particularly along the west coast.
